Here’s a track you should definitely check out simply because her voice is amazing. The vocals are sung by Khalada Smith, she’s an upcoming singer who has a huge range and a great voice. So I definitely suggest taking a listen and downloading the track here. You’ll thank me for turning you on to this great singer before she gets picked by a major. You’ll definitely be hearing a lot more from her in the future and if I get my way you’ll probably be hearing her over some Bass sometime soon.

GlobalGrind is confirming this very sad news.  One of my heroes growing up Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys has passed this morning after a long bout with cancer. The Beastie Boys ‘Licensed to Ill’ was one of the first albums I ever bought when I was first started collecting vinyl. The Beasties were definitely trend setters in their own right and evolved with the times but always stayed true to their roots.

The CyanogenMod music player is now available for download. The app will be in the market soon, but for now, you will have to download and manually install it via the link below. Why use this app over the stock Google Music app? For a few reasons.

• Long pressing and flinging gets you special actions
• You can search for songs in the market from almost any screen
• Share tracks with social outlets
• Customize the notifications music player
• It can easily be themed, meaning themes are on the way
• Shaking your phone or flipping it can activate special actions
• So much more…

One thing to note – this will not pull in your Google Music collection and is only for tracks on your device. To my knowledge, Google has not opened up that service to anyone, so until they do, you’ll have to load music onto your phone in order to take advantage of apps like these.

This morning I came across this and figured I’d post it up here for anybody else who may come across this. Once in a while you may run across CD images in the format of a .bin file and .cue file. These are CDRWin images which can’t (as far as I know) be easily read on the Mac. A little shortcut I found is to open the .cue file with Toast as if you were going to burn it, which Toast can do , but choose File -> Save As Disc Image instead. Toast will prompt you for the location to save the disc image, then dump the file there. Drop the resulting .toast file into Toast’s Disc Image section and hit Mount, and the data from the disc image (and thus the original .bin/.cue image) will be mounted on your Mac without burning them to a CD or DVD first. It’s a bit of a long way around, but it works, and might save you a disc.

So I just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 with Honeycomb 3.2 pre-installed and I really like the OS except for the bloatware that seems to eat up the battery faster than I’d like. So I decided to go root and get rid of the bloatware myself and tweak a few things to my liking. Here’s the steps:

1. Download and Install the Samsung Drivers for your device. Install Kies, or the latest mobile drivers.

2. Download Da_G’s modded kernel

2. Download Odin 1.85

3. Open Odin 1.85 as administrator
4. Place the modded kernel .tar file in the PDA slot. (Make sure you do not have any boxes in the options panel checked besides the ones that were checked when opening the program – should only be auto reboot and f.reset time)
5. Place the tablet in download mode. Hold vol up + vol down and hold power until the device powers on into download mode. Hit volume up to proceed after the warning screen
6. Plug the tablet into the computer on a main usb slot and it will be detected by Odin in one of the ID:COM slots (will appear as yellow)
7. Hit Start – the modded kernel should will be flashed to the tablet. Tablet will restart.
8. Go into market and download the Superuser App.

Optional – you can flash the stock kernel back using steps 3-7 above.

Finally!

Miami is getting a proper documentary about the beginnings of the Miami Bass Sound. The 80′s and early 90′s were a special time down in South Florida when Miami embraced that 808 kick drum that we have all grown to live and love. I personally can’t wait for the release of this one so stay tuned and check out the trailers!

This build is for the Viewsonic Viewpad 7. I’ve made this build mainly because I had one big problem with stock one – it was offering little space for my apps. I’ve used this opportunity to add extra features and remove some annoying ones. Here is the list of changes:

• based on latest official stock Viewpad 7 firmware Android 2.2.2
• added Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5.2 functionality (require that you have extra partition on your SD card for storing your apps; exact procedure to create one is described in installation procedure)
• fully deodexed and zipalligned ROM
• ROM is rooted (Superuser.apk + su)
• installed BusyBox with support for init.d scripts
• replaced “Welcome” boot animation with stock android 2.2 animation
• installed Gingerbread keyboard
• installed Morelocale2 for more languages
• modified framework-res.apk and services.jar with Gingerbread look like + % battery
• removed Aldiko,RSS, TouchPAL_M20
• updated gapps to newest version (Gmail, GoogleQuickSearchBox, Maps, Market, VoiceSearch) & YouTube
• modified host file for ad-free

Requirements:

• installed Clockwork Recovery Partition as described here [TOOL] Viewpad 7 Backup, Root & Recovery

Installation:

1. Power down your device.
2. Power on device holding power button and both volume keys simultaneously.
3. Upon power up you will see the birds logo and ‘enter recovery’ text in the top left corner of the screen.
4. Use the volume keys to step through the menu, power to select and back. (there is bug in clockwork when you press volume keys it jumps 2 steps; to jump one step press and hold volume and then press power to select)
5. Select the “advanced->Partition SD Card” item, next select size for your Apps2SD partition (1024MB recommended), next select 0 as size of swap partition. (Remember that this will delete all data on your SD card, so make backup of SD card if you need !!!)
6. After the partitioning will be done select the “reboot system now” item.
7. Using USB cable connection or SD card reader copy CleanViewpad7_signed_v1.0.zip to root folder of SD card.
8. Power down your device.
9. Power on device holding power button and both volume keys simultaneously.
10. Select the “backup and restore->Backup” item to make a backup of the current firmware in case something goes wrong. The backed up ROM should be located in: /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/date&time/
11. Select the “wipe data/factory reset->Yes – delete all user data” to clear old stuff.
12. Select the “install zip from sdcard->choose zip from sdcard” item and select CleanViewpad7_signed_v1.0.zip.
13. After flashing will be done select the “reboot system now” item. First boot may take a few minutes.

Migrate from stock or another build:

1. Make backup of your phone using Titanium Backup (select all user applications).
2. Copy all files and folders from SD card to local folder on your computer.
3. Install Clockwork Recovery Partition, create partition on SD card and install ROM as described in installation guide.
4. Copy all files and folders from local folder on your computer back to SD card.
5. Restore applications using Titanium Backup and reboot your phone.
